It is very impressive at the foot of the large rock face under the Säntis! The alpine huts look very, very small in front of it.

From here you have a beautiful view of the Säntis - depending on the direction you are hiking, it's worth turning around every now and then. The 2,501 meter high mountain is the highest mountain in the Alpstein.

Here you are on the old pass road that leads to Schwägalp. The pass passes the foot of the Säntis and is one of the highest passes in the foothills of the Alps. You may be overtaken by some motivated cyclists as you hike towards Schwägalp with the Säntis in view.

Nice road, in my experience little traffic.

Nosshaldensattel 1496 m Nusshaldensattel Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden The Nusshaldensattel (also written Nosshaldensattel) is a pass on the cantonal border of Appenzell Innerrhoden and Appenzell Ausserrhoden. It is located at an altitude of 1496 meters above sea level southeast of Kronberg (1663m). The saddle can be reached either from Schwägalp or from the village of Urnäsch up to Kronberg. You can also hike over the pass on the second stage of the Appenzeller Höhenweg (hiking route 980). A great cycling pass. No matter which side you come from. From here you have the option of continuing in all directions. Gäbris, St. Anton, Trogen or into the Rhine Valley.
