Built in the 16th century and constructed from white stone from the Boncourt quarry, the church has a brown tile roof, accompanied by a bell tower and a belfry covered in slate. A small canopy, a vestibule, protects the sanctuary door, rebuilt in 1789. The bell was cast in the 17th century.

Located on the banks of the Blaise River, southwest of Dreux in the prestigious Crécy-Couvé district, the Marquise de Pompadour's residence from 1746 to 1757, the seigneury of Saulnières came under the Marquise's ownership in 1754. Some remarkable elements of the church's furnishings are undoubtedly due to the generosity of this patron of the arts. The Saint-Pierre church, built on the heights of the commune of Saulnières, is believed to have originally been the church of a Benedictine convent, which ceded it to its inhabitants in 1571 after the sack of their place of worship in 1562, during the First Battle of Dreux. While the cartularies of Saint-Père, Beaulieu, and Belhomer mention the town from the first half of the 12th century, we have no documents on the church before its transfer to the commune. The building (34 m by 11.5 m), oriented, with a single nave of four bays extended by a choir bay, ends with a three-sided chevet extended along the axis by a sacristy. The walls are made of cobblestone and grison rubble, while the twelve buttresses are sandstone. The steeply pitched roof is covered with tiles, and, practically in its center, stands a bell tower with a hexagonal base crowned by a spire of the same shape. The western door is framed by two buttresses: it is surmounted by a rose window that probably dates from the 19th-century construction campaign. In the south wall, at the level of the first bay, a blocked, semicircular-arched entrance door suggests a Romanesque construction. From the second bay, light streams in generously through eight openings: semicircular arches for those in the nave and Gothic-style for the four choir bays; a fifth, axial, was blocked when the altarpiece was installed. The 16th-century stained-glass windows were destroyed during a bombing raid during the Second World War; only a few elements, listed as Historic Monuments, remain in the sacristy. The vault, covered with shingles, must have been painted, as evidenced by the hallmark decorated with black and white diamonds and chevrons, likely from the 16th century. The great simplicity of the architecture is offset by the relative richness of the furnishings. The late 15th-century stone statues representing Saint Barbara, a religious figure without attributes, and two angels from the same period constitute a fine example of Gothic sculpture, albeit lacking the two angels purchased in the early 20th century for the Louvre, where they are now on display. The choir's layout could date back to the time of Madame de Pompadour: the doors, open on either side of the central section, are surmounted by two painted and gilded wooden statues, Saint Peter and Saint Sebastian. The central section is crowned by God the Father, and the canvas depicts Saint Peter freed from his chains by an angel. A fragmentary funerary liter is still visible inside and outside. In 2003, the Sauvegarde de l'Art Français (French National Art Foundation) granted €10,000 in aid to help repair the structure and roof of the building, whose condition had been aggravated by the 1999 storm.

Abondant is located in the Eure Valley, in the immediate vicinity of the Dreux national forest and the important Château de Sourches, which was extensively transformed in the 19th century, and whose grounds were designed by the Duchênes. It appears that the extensive work carried out on the church in the 16th and 18th centuries was due to the generosity of this family. The current Saint-Pierre church succeeds a 12th-century building that was under the control of the canons of Saint-Étienne de Dreux and later the monks of Notre-Dame du Bec. Thanks to parish registers, the dates of its construction are precisely known: in 1508, the roof frame was raised; in 1516, construction continued thanks to donations from Pierre de Guerry, then lord of Abondant; in 1548, the erection of a 60-meter bell tower, which was topped with a cross in 1549. The dedication ceremony by the Bishop of Meaux did not take place until 1604. The Church of Saint-Pierre stands in the middle of the village, surrounded by the former cemetery area, which has been transformed into a grassy mound. On the north side, it is dominated by a large three-story stone bell tower. The western façade is preceded by a very rustic enclosed porch. The church consists of a single nave extended by a choir and a five-sided apse. The chapel, which occupies the base of the bell tower to the north, and the south chapel form a false transept. The church is built of flint rubble; the quoins, bands, cornices, and buttresses are made of sandstone. The interior of the building is covered with beautiful wainscoting, with battens, entirely redone based on the original layout above the nave. The radiating wainscoting of the apse is highlighted with a black geometric decoration painted on either side of the battens. The sculpted beams of the roof structure were preserved and placed on the new beams. The 18th-century waxed wooden high altar is decorated with a Crucifixion embroidered on fabric, possibly replacing a painting. The statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul were placed in the niches to the left and right of the central altarpiece. The church has enclosed wooden pews that have been restored. When the pews were removed, gravestones were unearthed in the floor; they were photographed and drawn. A stone statue with a separated body and head was discovered in the thickness of a wall: it is Saint Peter wearing the papal tiara. During World War II, the bombing of a train stopped at the station destroyed the stained-glass windows, which were of varying value; however, one of them, dating from the 16th century, was listed. In 1948, the Bernard Campin workshop in Chartres was hired to renovate all the windows, in the style of the 1930s. Drainage work, masonry, timber framing, and roofing were carried out throughout the building, the most significant of which was the restoration of the paneled vault. The Sauvegarde de l'Art Français (French National Art Protection Agency) awarded €10,000 in grants in 2005.
