The climb to Crown Range Pass near Queenstown is a highlight for any cyclist! 😊 Coming from the north, the ascent begins just before the town of Cardrona. The road winds gently through the landscape, past green meadows and small lakes. The higher you climb, the steeper the road becomes. The last 5 kilometers are a real test of endurance – the gradient is around 10-12%! 🚴‍♂️ But the view is worth it: The Remarkables mountain range rises majestically into the sky, and you can see all the way to Lake Whaika. The pass itself is at an altitude of 1,076 meters and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. From here, you can look down to Queenstown and Lake Whaika. There are also several rest areas and viewpoints where you can catch your breath and enjoy the scenery. The descent is pure fun! The road is winding and leads through breathtaking scenery. You can really let loose and enjoy the speed! 😄 Overall, the Crown Range is one of the most beautiful and challenging cycling routes in New Zealand. The tour consists of 3 parts. First you walk through a part of the site. In the 1990s, huts were built here for a film that were modeled on those used in the 19th century. It is unbelievable under what conditions people lived and worked. The history of gold prospecting and the mine is told in a lecture. And at the end you can pan for gold yourself. The guide lost the gold he wanted to find.

This cross ways takes you on 4 different routes. Back the way you came, down to Meg's hut. Along the roaring Meg track or up and across to Snowfarm.

Take a steep but very short climb to the top of this summit and then it is an east stroll across the top to meet back up with the main path

Head up from the lath directly to the summit. take care of the narrow and rocky steps as you go over the ridge back to the path.

This segment is on private property; Stay on the trail & treat it with respect. You can even meet some animals like cows, sheep & deer

Here at the saddle there are multiple options depending on which walk you do. For Meg hut you continue uphill to the left of the sign

This is the summit on the Crown Range Road. It’s the highest main road in New Zealand and reaches an altitude of 1121 metres. In the winter it can become covered in snow.
