Hard ride, worth the effort, pretty steep at the start of the decent into Nelson, but quickly levels out to a brilliant decent.

It is probably an OK alternative to the Highway from Pelorious Bridge to Nelson. The Nelson Side is way steeper. No matter which direction you go and no matter how little lugage you take, you will probably need to push your bike in some parts up the hill and eventually even down the hill.

The Maungatapu Saddle is the main route for power lines from Nelson to Marlborough. The gravel road is very rough and steep, especially on the western side. Open only to walkers, mountain bikers and motorcycles. Closed to all other motorized vehicles since 2010.

From this point - a few meters on a footpath through the bushes - the water has the wonderful blue-green color. It was much less spectacular at the river access.

The snout point is the extreme point. A bench and lawn invites you to sunbathe. The way there is very muddy after the rain, so good footwear is required.

Half an hour's walk from Picton and very quiet. Here you can watch the ferries Picton / Wellington from close proximity. Toilet is available.

Great little village and a great promenade along the bay. Here you can book the water taxi to Picton or kayak tours.

A great suspension bridge over the Pelorus River. There is a small circular path that leads across the bridge. Definitely worth a stop.

Nice view of Nelson and the Tasman Sea. You will find information boards with pictures. The way up is easily feasible for everyone.
