Macael's hallmark, beautiful and impressive.

Tahal Castle, nestled in the Sierra de los Filabres, was built in the 15th and 16th centuries to control the routes between the Almanzora Valley and Tabernas. Although it remains in a state of consolidated ruin today, its large rectangular keep, with its elevated entrance and masonry walls, is still impressive. Next to it, you can see the remains of a circular tower, the walled enclosure, and a cistern that provided water in the event of a siege. Freely accessible, it is an interesting place to combine history and hiking in this part of Almería.

The route through Tahal is very scenic. I didn't stop here, I don't walk around with racing bike shoes and cleats to look at something.

The Castle of Tahal is located at the end of the town of the same name. The state of conservation is good and it is in a state of consolidated ruin. Free access and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Monument

The marble mortar is a very popular object that has become our tourist icon. Inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records, it is a tribute to the Macael marble artisans. Before the installation of handicraft workshops in the town, at the end of the 19th century, its complete elaboration (from the layout on a piece of white marble to its carving with pointers and grinding) determined the end of the stage in which the young people acted as apprentices, to be considered as stonemasons. More recently, it has acquired great notoriety thanks to its use by famous chefs in their appearances on gastronomic television programs. Installing in the roundabout of Avenida de Almería with Avenida de Ronda is, of course, made in Macael Marble. The mortar (base) has dimensions of 3.29 meters. high, 3.07 mts. of diameter of the mouth and 30.9 tons of weight; while the hand is 4.73 mts.
