A broad is the local name for a body of water. This one was created from a former gravel pit in conjunction with the landscaping of the universities grounds. It's pretty and a haven for wildlife, but its steep sides reduce the wetland habitat that would normally surround a lake of this size.

This circular cycle path runs around Whitlingham Broad, part of Whitlingham Country Park. It’s a good compact surface with fantastic views over the water. There’s a cafe at the south west corner called Flint Barn.

Use of the water is managed by Whitlingham Adventure; https://www.whitlinghamadventure.org.uk/ Craft hire and private craft can be used on the lake between April and October. Open water swimming sessions are on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings and are run by Tri-anglia; https://tri-anglia.club/

The Whitlingham Great Broad is one of two lakes in Whitlingham Country Park, a wonderful expanse of countryside along the River Yare. A cycle path leads along the water's edge through peaceful nature. The lake is a popular spot for water sports like wild swimming and stand up paddleboard.

Great stop site for a cheeky coffee away from the hoards at the Barn Cafe. Incredibly quite despite being so close to the city

Remember your binoculars there's plenty of wildlife to spot.

RSPB Rockland Marshes is a nature reserve with wonderful views over Rockland Broad and the River Yare. The reedbeds and open grazing marshes afford year-round displays of wildlife. Keep a look out for bird species including barn owl, great crested grebe, Cetti's warbler, kingfisher, mute swan, tufted duck, pochard, and goldeneye.
