From the "Rachelseediensthütte" to the Rachelsee: The Rachelsee at the foot of the Grosser Rachel is the quietest lake in the Bavarian Forest and can only be reached on footpaths. Like the Grosser Arbersee, it is overlooked by a steep lake wall. An Ice Age educational trail leads through the forests that were largely destroyed by bark beetles; a new, wild mixed forest is emerging here. The managed Racheldiensthütte or the Waldschmidthaus invite you to stop for a snack. The hike to the second highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest, the Rachel (1453m), is somewhat demanding and requires stamina and surefootedness. The hike to the Rachelsee can be started, for example, from the Gfäll hiking car park, which is closed to private cars from May to November. So we park at the P+R car park in Spiegelau and take the Igelbus there. Then we hike along the hiking trail marked with a capercaillie to the Rachel summit. A special highlight of the hike is the wonderful view of the Rachelsee at the Rachel Chapel. Tour description: First an easy forest and forestry path, the last part to the summit is on a steep and stony path, the way back is partly bumpy path - length approx. 10.5 km - walking time 4 hours. Starting/ending point: Igelbus from the Park+Ride car park in Spiegelau (from the main road at the level of the tourist information office between the supermarkets), departure every half hour (one way adults €1.50, 6 - 14 years €0.50). From the Racheldiensthütte you can reach the Rachelsee in 1 hour.

From the center of Großarmschlag, hiking trail 6 initially leads parallel to the forest railway tracks and on a road with little traffic to the Großarmschlager reservoir, which is not only popular with fishermen but also the gateway to the idyllic Steinklamm. The path circles the lake with almost no inclines and invites you to linger with beautiful views of the water. After the circumnavigation it goes back on the same route to the village center. The round is well suited for prams. Marking: white 6 on a red circle Parking: P at the Großarmschlag cemetery, approx. 200 m from the hiking information point. Tip: The Großarmschlager reservoir circuit can be combined with hiking circuit 5 "Along villages, hamlets and Großer Ohe"
