Dominica declared its independence in 1978. As a gift from Canada, the island received a yellow school bus. In 1979, a baobab tree fell on the school bus during Hurricane David before it could be put into service.

The Dominica Botanical Garden is located directly at the port of Roseau. It was created around 100 years ago. Imposing giant trees and species-rich fauna worlds are well worth seeing.

The Roseau Cruise Ship Berth is located in the center of the small capital. A large cruise ship can dock here. There is no cruise terminal. Holidaymakers walk straight to the small capital. At the end of the pier there is a small museum (The Dominica Museum) and a tourist information office.
