Dromesnil Castle

18th century residence, maintained and inhabited. Visits possible from May.

This is a magnificent mill that is three centuries old. It stopped grinding in 1925 and has had other uses using hydraulic power. The whole is kept in good condition and is worth a visit.

n the Middle Ages there was a castle in Dromesnil. In the 15th century it was rebuilt after the Hundred Years' War. Demolished in 1750 and replaced by the present building in 1752. Dromesnil Castle was built in the mid 18th century and remodeled in the 19th century. The Lordship of Dromesnil was established as a margraviate for the Hallencourt family, who owned the castle until 1749.

The present Castle of Selincourt was built from 1734 by the Viscount of Selincourt, Charles-Nicolas Manessier, captain of the infantry in the King's regiment. It replaces a previous building that was destroyed by fire.

The castle is a typical Picardy brick and stone building from the 17th and 18th centuries with a horseshoe-shaped entrance. The property also includes a stable, an orangery, a wood and adobe farmhouse and a cellar.

Historical The castle was commissioned by Pierre Langlois de Septenville, Postmaster General in the Kingdom, it was completed in 1751. It has 100 doors and windows which, by clever calculations of proportion, do not give a massive appearance but elegant lines. The castle has remained authentic, as it was in the 18th century. Other buildings such as the dovecote are period and very well preserved. Some outbuildings suffered from a fire but were rebuilt in keeping with the style of the castle, in particular the mare house, the kennel, the watchmaking, the riding school and the farmhouse. Despite its centuries of history, the castle has only known 10 owners, family and descendants more or less distant from Pierre Langlois de Septenville.
