Lautereck Castle consists of a stone ground floor and two timber-framed floors above. Two corner towers give it a castle-like character. After renovations in 2008, a beautiful wedding room was created in the castle's bay window room. Weddings can also be held there on weekends and holidays.

The castle lies within a presumably prehistoric fortification, the age of which is unknown due to a lack of systematic archaeological research. A section of rampart with a ditch in front ran east of the Oberlimpurg farm and separated the mountain spur from the Hall plain. A section almost 40 m long and up to 4 m high has been preserved on the southwestern edge of the valley. Finds, mostly made during construction work, date from the Neolithic period (5th millennium BC to c. 1800 BC) and the La Tène period (500/450 BC to c. AD). Whether there was a connection between this fortification and the Celtic saltworks, also from the La Tène period, in the area of Schwäbisch Hall's old town can only be speculated.

What is different about the Großcomburg cloister? On the one hand, it is on the “wrong side”: the southern flank of the church would be usual. However, the terrain on the Großcomburg was such that the cloister had to be attached to the west end of the church. The ground on the long sides of the church would have sloped too steeply. Also a rare case: one of the four wings led like a tunnel under the Romanesque tower. It disappeared when the church was rebuilt in Baroque style - until it was excavated in the 20th century.

Next to the castle is a beer garden, which invites you to a tour stop when the summer weather is nice.

An old town with a castle and half-timbered houses

Although some buildings were demolished in the 19th century, the Comburg offers a largely preserved ensemble of buildings from the 11th to 18th centuries. The entire monastery complex is surrounded by a ring wall with defensive towers from the 16th century, which gives the entire complex a defensive, castle-like character. Behind the inner gate building, which is crowned by the Romanesque Michael Chapel, lies the "Old Deanery"
