Sweet pub with good beer and garden.

A beautiful example of a tree-lined lane north of Oxford. Usually very quiet car-wise, so a perfect place to drink in the view and enjoy the tarmac.

Picturesque gravel road from Cottisford, links well with routes into Tusmore or on towards Hethe

Built in the late 1730s it is a significant and very early example of a ferme ornee and these days still serves as a shelter for a herd of rare cattle. On one side the arched alcove in its tower contains a seat from which to take in the view across the fields outside the garden wall. It’s listed by Historic England as Grade 2*.

Although technically a public bridleway the provides a tarmac approach to Wolfe's Obelisk with views of Stowe School

Coffee shop with bike shop. Hot choc, real honey flapjack and chocolate brownie were all outstanding.

While the cows to the east are really interesting to look at, the one on the west are curious and if you are patient you can pet them.

A mile north of Lower Heyford is its twin village Upper Heyford. Its location in the Cherwell Valley gives it excellent access to the verdant Oxfordshire countryside. There are plenty of local trails to explore. The Barley Mow pub is a good lunch option. The nearby RAF base was decommissioned in 1993 and many of its buildings are now listed as scheduled monuments. The site is popular with local urban explorers.

This beautiful ancient lime tree has a girth of 8.02m at a height of 1.10m, suggesting an advanced age of around 300 years. Lime trees are important trees for beekeepers with their fragrant and nectar-producing flowers.
