The Old Rail Trail is part of the Ireland Greenway network. It weaves its way from the bustling town of Athlone and ends in the delightful old market town of Mullingar, County Westmeath. Your journey between these two charming hotspots will be nothing but birdsong and the whirr of spokes as you whizz along on this quality 43km cycle path.

The charming Royal Canal Greenway is a super scenic 130km towpath going right across central Ireland. It is a level towpath so ideal for walkers, runners and cyclists alike. Starting in lovely Maynooth, it follows the 200 year old canal through charming enclaves as Enfield, Mullingar all the way to Longford. On the way there are cafés, picnic spots and more attractions to shake a stick at. There are charming rustic landscapes, lush rolling Irish countryside, quaint canal side villages, working locks and historic landmarks dotted all along your way. To travel all along its length is a stunning stunning way to see Ireland!

This beautiful lock marks the western end of the Summit Level of the Royal Canal. It's a wonderful spot to relax that features picnic seats and benches, a wildflower garden, a children's playground, and a coffee shop.

Wonderful single-arched bridge that spans over the Royal Canal. The bridge was built in 1806 and is a fine example of the architectual heritage of Westmeath.

This is a must do cycle for anyone who likes getting out on their bike. The Old Rail Trail Greenway is about 40km of biking heaven. With lots of entry and exit points, you can hop on and off to explore the villages and attractions along the way. Be it from Athlone to Moate or the ambitious 40km all the way to Mullingar. A route for all biking styles.
