A spectacular hike that quickly takes you high above the Glendalough Valley. After about an hour, you'll find yourself standing 300m directly above the Upper Lake on an almost vertical cliff: extraordinary! First, it's a relatively steep climb through the forest on beautiful hiking trails, then you work your way uphill, then a section straight along the ridge of the Spinc, with fantastic views of the lakes repeatedly offered. It's breathtaking! At the end of the climb, you climb up again on wooden planks - very comfortable. Then it's a leisurely descent on wooden planks to the Glenealo River. You cross this at a bridge, then descend relatively steeply along the river. The last part of the hike leads very comfortably directly along the shore of the Upper Lake back to the parking lot. Our recommendations: - Be sure to do this hike during the week. The hiking trails in the Glendalough Valley are really crowded on weekends. - Hike the trail clockwise. This way, you'll get to the top faster and have a very pleasant second part. We found this to be ideal. - Next to the boardwalk right after the summit, a whole herd of deer including babies <3 was lying in the grass, just 5 meters from the hiking trail! - It only took us 2:30 hours to complete the entire route, but that was obviously relatively quick. - You need good hiking shoes, especially for the descending part along the Glenealo river.

This waterfall is very impressive. I particularly like it because it's not a vertical drop, but rather a slanting one.

A beautiful cascade, Poulanass takes its name from the Irish Poll an Eas: hole of the waterfall. Runners on the Wicklow Way and the Spinc Trail will find it hard not to stop and admire the falls. However, in ascent, you might be glad of the chance to rest for a moment.

Particularly steep part of the Maulin Ascent(/Descent) from Powerscourt Bridge thats characterised by Zig-Zagging steps. Beautiful views and requires good fitness (or plenty of breaks to enjoy the views). The river/bridge at the bottom is beautiful, and the views from the top and higher are breathtaking, over Djouce Mountain, War Hill and the upper Powerscourt/Dargle River Valley.
