Mottarone Park Excursion, approximately 35 km. Departure from the center of Gignese (VB), 700 meters above sea level, to the summit of Mottarone (1,492 meters), through forests of birch, beech, chestnut, and maple trees. From the summit, you can admire the seven lakes in 360 degrees. From here, the view stretches to infinity: under clear skies, from the Maritime Alps to Monviso, from the closer Monte Rosa massif to the Swiss Alps, all the way to the Po Valley. A beautiful renovation in a peaceful place

At the top of Mount Barro (581 m) there is an ancient medieval village, born around the church of Santa Maria Annunziata. Probably built on the ruins of a castle, this church preserves an apse with a stone dated 1484. The houses, made of local stone and close to each other, were once home to farmers who cultivated fields and vineyards. The last inhabitant left the village in 1977, marking the end of its rural life. Today, every 1st May, Mount Barro comes alive with the traditional Fiora festival. This popular event, inspired by the ancient gesture of lovers exchanging bouquets of flowers, celebrates the community's first spring outing, transforming the village into a place of celebration and memories.

I recommend the first itinerary, leaving the car at the cemetery of Boca, then following the path indicated here for the Pelosa, then Croce del Teso, continuing until the chapel of S.Bernardo, then returning through Motto della Capretta and passing by the ca' dal luv, now a ruin and by the 43rd partisan refuge, ref. "Il Monte Antico di A. Orsi", you exit onto the Traversagna, then continue left to the Sanctuary of Boca and return to the car.

The road is quiet, through the forest and climbs steadily.

Always nice to get there and on clear days it's an excellent panoramic point.
