I don't know if I would recommend this walk.. in the sense that the part near the lake is very pretty and in the shade.. excellent for me as I walk with dogs.. but the part of the path is poorly maintained.. I ended up among brambles and I I've lost count of the cobwebs.. with this I'm not saying that the walk shouldn't be done.. but rather to encourage those who are responsible for maintaining these paths to take care of that stretch too.. because if that were the case it would really be a simple walk.. nothing particularly challenging in short in nature.. but not the wild kind 😂

One of the most beautiful tree-lined avenues in the Varese area. It flows onto the SP69 (Angera-Ispra) and connects La Quassa and further on, the long lake of Ispra. I recommend gravel bikes.

The Gulf of Quassa, located between Ranco and Ispra on Lake Maggiore, is an area of considerable ecological and landscape importance. It is characterized by sandy seabeds unusual for the region, the result of the Quaternary glaciations which left erratic boulders and moraines. In the 1970s, it was the site of the isolation of the last Varese nucleus of the European pond turtle. Ranco and Ispra are promoting the creation of a Local Park of Supra-municipal Interest to preserve the landscape, develop sustainable and ecotourism by involving the surrounding municipalities. The plan envisages the southward expansion of Monte San Quirico, the Rocca Borromea, and the Bruschera marsh, while to the north it would include the Golden Sands, the Laghetasc pond and the Bozza marsh. The main objective is to conserve the landscape heritage and promote ecological tourism in the region.

The Sass da Preja Buia, or Sass de Preja Buia, is located in Sesto Calende, near the Oratory of San Vincenzo, along the Hidden Wonders itinerary. It is a large erratic boulder (i.e. a block of rock that was transported to the valley floor by a glacier) dating back to the last glaciation of the Neozoic. Made up of a bright greenish rock, it still features numerous graffiti made in prehistoric times: it can be assumed that the boulder was used as a sacrificial altar. Other erratic boulders found nearby have other graffiti. The Boulder is also a strong magnetic point; if you approach it with a compass, it will start spinning in all directions like crazy.
