Käylä is a picturesque village in northern Kuusamo, Finland, nestled along the scenic Kitkajoki River. The village's name is believed to originate from the Sami word 'käulehk,' meaning 'curved' or 'bent,' reflecting the river's graceful bend at this location. Serving as a hub for the surrounding region, Käylä boasts essential amenities including a church, school, and local shop, making it a convenient stop for travelers en route to the nearby Oulanka National Park. The village is renowned for its vibrant community events, such as the traditional Tukkilaiskisat (log driving competitions), which celebrate the area's rich cultural heritage.

Käylänkoski is a picturesque rapid located in Kuusamo, Finland, along the Kitkajoki River. Easily accessible via Sallantie Road (Route 950), visitors can enjoy the serene beauty of the flowing waters from nearby bridges and winding paths. The area is also known for hosting traditional timber rafting competitions, known as Tukkilaiskisat, offering a glimpse into Finland's rich cultural heritage. For fishing enthusiasts, Käylänkoski provides accessible spots, including casting platforms suitable for anglers with mobility challenges.

The area around Konttaisjärvi and Konttainen Hill offers significant elevation differences, providing stunning views of the lake as well as of the ridge formed by Ruka, Valtavaara, Konttainen and Kumpuvaara. The same ridge also includes Pyhävaara, located behind Ruka when looking from Konttainen towards Ruka.

The underpass may be wet, approach with caution!

Ruka is a year-round resort. Ski slopes are transformed into Bike Park, mountain biking trails, Summer Sled Track and alpine coaster during summer.
