This historic lock is located at the confluence of the Rhône-Rhine Canal and the Doubs River, right next to the charming village of Dampierre, which has a picnic area. The canal connects the Saône, a navigable tributary of the Rhône, to the Rhine, via the Doubs Valley and its extension in Upper Alsace to Niffer on the Rhine. Another extension connects to Strasbourg via the Ill Canal.
