The Proserpina Dam or Reservoir is one of the oldest and best-preserved Roman hydraulic works in the world. Don Benito is a very interesting destination in the province of Badajoz. Founded in the 15th century, it grew after the depopulation of Don Llorente due to flooding of the Guadiana River. Its name comes from Don Benito Velázquez Dávila, who donated land for the settlement. Today it is one of the largest municipalities in Spain (561 km²) and the economic center of the Vegas Altas region.

The García de Sola Reservoir, also known as Puerto Peña, is located on the Guadiana River, in the La Siberia Extremeña region (Badajoz). It was built in 1962 as part of the Badajoz Plan and has a capacity of 554 hm³. It is an emblematic site for its natural, scenic, and recreational value.

This spectacular reservoir was built during the 1960s. The reflection of the sunsets in the water and the surrounding landscape make it a must-see if you're exploring the Guadiana Nature Trail.

One of the most recommended routes is the circular route from Oliva de la Frontera, which is approximately 7.32 km long and suitable for all fitness levels. Another option is the route from Zahinos to the reservoir, which is a little longer at 14.5 km and requires a good level of fitness.
