6月 22, 2024, Nant Milgatw Waterfall
Nant Milgatw Waterfall located near Trefil Tredegar Gwent. It’s Small waterfall on the back of the stream Nant Milgatw. Normally not this much water coming over the top like I’d experienced today. Hands down this has to be the stinkiest waterfall I’ve ever seen, water was filthy like brown sludge not what I expected to see. There is many of great walking routes that all can use the same start point as here or along the Trefil Rd, as I’ve gone way beyond this point previously and it’s definitely worth the explore there are so many other routes that can lead you up onto the surrounding mountainsides above. Including the incredible Chartists Cave. The Appropriate footwear is definitely required here as terrain can vary depending on the weather conditions route and height.

4月 20, 2024, Aneurin Bevan Memorial Stones
These stones are erected on the spot where Labour MP, Aneurin Bevan, the architect of the National Health Service, addressed his constituents and the wider world. The hillside location saw enormous gatherings eager to hear one of the greatest orators ever. People would come from far and wide to hear this great orator speak. The large, main monolith represents Aneurin Bevan himself and the 3 smaller ones represent the towns of Rhymney, Tredegar and Ebbw Vale, that formed his constituency.

4月 20, 2024, Y Domen Fawr Summit
Our Ronnie beat me to it. For any readers information, Ronnie is a phenomenal peak bagger, and is literally hiking everything in the UK that has an uphill slope. I will join him on the rounds of all the 100m prominent peaks of the UK. Y Domen Fawr is one of those peaks. Note: Y Domen Fawr, literally means a big heap or mound.

9月 7, 2022, Bedwellty Winding Wheel
The monument consists of the remains of incline haulage gear, dating to the 19th century. The winding gear stands halfway up the side of the Sirhowy Valley, above Bedwellty Pits at the top of a disused tramroad, and on the lip of an old quarry. This winding wheel was used to lower quarried stone down the incline to Bedwellty pits yard. The site has recently been restored. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of 18th and 19th century industrial and transportation practices. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structure itself may be expected to contain archaeological inform.

7月 21, 2021, Pontypool to Blaenavon (NCN 492)
Gets a little gravelly in sections but is otherwise perfectly suitable as an access route to the Brecons, Merthyr, Abergavenny and the Black Mountains. Recommend starting in Pontypool as the upticks on the Brecon/Monmouth canal from Newport can really sap your strength.

Caused by an ignition of firedamp, coal-dust in the air ignited and the explosion spread almost throughout a district of the mine, killing 45 out of the 48 men who worked there.
