Take the mtb route up/down through the wood to the North East of the statue, look out for it near the bench on the main gravel track

Well worth seeing and easy to get too in the country park

As highest points go it's not very high and if you can look past the flytipped rubbish you can see across Derbyshire.

Silverhill is an artificial hill near Teversal in Nottinghamshire, and is one of the highest points in the county at 204.3 metres (670 ft). Originally it was a mine spoil heap on the site of the former Silverhill colliery which closed in the 1990s. It was subsequently landscaped in 2005 by Nottinghamshire County Council, with tree planting, numerous footpaths, and a viewpoint. It is now known as Silverhill Woods, and is one of a number of recreation sites in the area. These are linked together by multi-user trails, many of which incorporate the track beds of disused railway lines which once served the various local collieries.

I once rode here on my mtb years ago from Chesterfield along the Five Pits Trail on a day very similar to the weather when I did this hike. I forgot how good the views are from the sculpture, breath taking :) Bring some sandwiches and a drink and enjoy the view.

With extensive views across the Sherwood Forest region, it is entirely possible that Robin Hood and his Merry Men would have often hiked up this lovely little hill to survey the land. Many Iron Age and Roman artefacts have been discovered nearby, making this hill — actually a 3,000-year-old burial mound — rich in historical interest.

Argued locally as the highest point of Nottinghamshire In truth Newtonwood Lane Summit is slightly higher but the absolute highest point is Silverhill Summit, site of the Miner statue. Some disqualify that as it’s man-made.

Officially (although man-made) the highest point in the County of Nottinghamshire. Plaques describe the history and various views, with distances are also explained. The statue is very popular with tourists visiting the local caravan/camping site. There are small but plentiful bodies of water to relax by at the bottom of the hills and Silverhill/Teversal/Brierley/Pleasley are within easy reach via the trails

A 4km or so gravel loop around the woodland but it’s far from flat, the statue of the miner on the viewing platform at the top (albeit man-made) is the second highest point in Nottinghamshire
