Rochester is a great town for sightseeing and cafe stops, a must visit on a ride from London to Kent (or back). Castle Hill is one of the highlights, with a great view of the castle and the cathedral.

Nice views of the estuary, stones can be a bit slippery but they are compacted and easy to walk on. The camber of the walk can get a bit annoying but it is worth it.

In the spring and summer months, Longhoes Field is carpeted with Common Poppies, Viper's Bugloss, and the purple flowers of Corncockle. The fields are also an excellent vantage point to enjoy the beautiful scenes of the Kent Downs AONB.

The "Black Widow" is ex Russian Foxtrot B-39 (U 475) Hunter Killer Class Submarine, which is moored on the River Medway, close to the Rochester Bridge. It was built in 1967 and was in commission until 1994. When fully armed it could hold 22 Torpedo's including 2 with low yield nuclear warheads. https://www.medwaylines.com/blackwidowsubmarine.html

The Medway Viaducts are quite an impressive trio. There are three bridges, all spanning the Medway today in a row. Two are for the M2 road carriageways and the third is for a high-speed rail line. So high speed in fact, that the Eurostar set a British rail speed record doing 208 mph (335 kph) across it. Pretty swift. It's won civil engineering awards, so as you cross it, give it a nod.
