The mountain lake is a small lake at 382 m above sea level. It is a natural lake up to 13 m deep, which was altered by human hands in 1802 and 1803. At that time, it was called the Black Lake.

The "valley" is about 100m deep and has a size of about 72 hectares. Because of its steep, wooded flanks, the valley in the Tafeljura is also known as the small "Grand Canyon" of the Baselbiet. The north side of the mountain lake is wonderfully idyllic and close to nature. If you want, you will find the restaurant and the boat rental on the south side.

The Talweiher nature reserve is a small, untouched natural paradise next to the north-south route. Here you can watch birds and beavers and even have a barbecue at the rest area at the southern end.
