A great starting point for the Aare River Trail. The train station is right next to the castle, and there's also free parking. For example, you can take the red train from here to Solothurn and hike back along the Aare River – a beautiful route!

The Alt-Falkenstein Castle was probably built around 1100 by the Klus family. Today it houses a local history museum, which is open from April to October. There you can explore an exciting collection of archaeology, weapons, home decor and industrial history from the Thal Nature Park. From the castle you can enjoy a great view.

The beautiful Waldegg Castle was built at the end of the 17th century. Back then, it served as the summer residence of the mayor, Johann Viktor I von Besenval. Today, the castle is a kind of "living museum." You can visit the exhibition there from April to October. Further information can be found at https://schloss-waldegg.so.ch.

A beautiful round with forest and water

Nice view of Aarwangen Castle 🏰 on cycle route 5 and 8 Olten -> Solothurn. The castle already existed as a knight's complex at the end of the 12th century 👌🏻.

Waldegg Castle is today the most prominently located country seat of the Ancien Régime in the Solothurn area. It is thanks to its last owners that Waldegg Castle was able to preserve its historic urban appearance. In the donation contract of 1963, the elderly siblings stipulated that the associated land may not be built on, so that the overall effect of the property can also serve as historical testimony for future generations.

Unfortunately I never managed to get the museum open when I was there. Pity
