RhB Station "Ospizio Bernina 2253 m above sea level." The Ospizio Bernina station (Bernina Hospice) is the highest railway station in the Rhaetian Railway network at 2253 m above sea level. The station went into operation on June 1, 1909 with the extension of the Bernina Railway from Pontresina via Morteratsch. On July 5, 1910, the gap from the Bernina Pass via Alp Grüm to Poschiavo was closed. The line was electrified from the start. An official's house from 1912, designed by the architect Nicolaus Hartmann, and the transformer station have been preserved from the time the station was built. The station originally had the German name Berninahospiz. The station building was also expanded in 1925, based on plans by Nicolaus Hartmann. The covered turntable, which was also built as part of the station extension, is also one of his designs. Hartmann also planned the building of the next station on the Bernina Railway, Alp Grüm.
