Stories have it that in 1866, Clio was named after the Muse of History in Greek mythology. The railroad was very important in this small town, and there are a few historic railroad areas to visit, like the Clio Depot. Clio Park is also a very popular area in town, with the Trolley Line Trail running through it.

The Applewood Trail takes bikers past the grounds of the Applewood Estate. This was originally a working farm and house back in 1916, owned by Charles Stewart Mott, a key figure in the development of General Motors. Today it is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The gardens are a local favorite, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Photos are not allowed inside the building, so you will have to visit and find out what awaits you inside.

East Kearsley Street, between the cross-streets of Walnut Street and Crapo Street, is a collection of instutes that make up the Flint Cultural Center. Here visitors can see the Flint Insutute of Music, Flint Public Library, Flint Insutute of Arts, Sloan Museum, Flint Youth Theatre, The Whitting, and more. There are more museums in the area to visit, and there are unlimited possibilities for what can be learned.

Chevy Commons stretches along the Flint River between Kettering University and downtown Flint. This park was once the Chevrolet factory known as "Chevy in the Hole." It was beautified in 2015 with restored grasslands, meadows, wetlands, woodlands, green spaces, low-maintenance native plants, and trails.

Genesee Valley Trail is a paved trail that runs through Genesee. Spanning north-east to south-west, the trail is a multi-use trail that connects outer neighborhoods to downtown Flint. On the east end of the trail, riders go through Chevy Commons Park, a restored riverside greenspace.

Kettering University was formerly known as the General Motors Institute and is now named after Charles Kettering, who developed the electric starter and other automotive innovations. The school is a major supporter of the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics program. The program hosts events and gives scholarships to students involved in robotics.

The Black Creek Nature Trail, which stretches 1.6 miles, is open to hikers and bikers but not to motorized vehicles. It is a paved trail that is wheelchair accessible.
