11月 7, 2024, Schloss Deutschkreutz
Deutschkreutz Castle in central Burgenland was built in 1625 by Count Paul Nadasdy in the Italian Renaissance style and is located just 15 km from the Hungarian city of Sopron. The castle's layout is a combination typical of the border region, a combination of manor house, castle and farmyard. The four wings form a two-storey complex around a rectangular arcaded courtyard and four low corner towers covered with tent roofs protrude slightly into a former moat.

Kobersdorf Castle was built around 1528 from a medieval castle. In 1683 the complex was taken by the Turks and partially destroyed. After years of decay, the castle was bought and renovated by an architect in 1963. Today it is owned by her daughter and can only be viewed during events. Due to the lack of relevant literature, it is not possible to determine exactly when the castle was built. The building probably dates from the Middle Ages, as there are still remains of walls 150 cm thick. In the 17th century it was rebuilt on a hook-shaped floor plan. In the 18th century the building was used as an inn. From this time it became known as Rohonczy Castle. The Niczky family from Nebersdorf later acquired the castle and had it expanded like a fort. It was restored again in 1880 in the historicist style. In the 20th century, the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture acquired the castle and briefly housed an agricultural school for girls there. The Eisenstadt diocese acquired the building at the end of the 1980s. The castle now houses St. Stephan's House, an education and youth center.

In 1966, the artist Anton Lehmden acquired the then desolate castle and has been busy repairing and renovating it since then and until his death in 2018. Not only did he create his artist refuge here, but also the Lehmden Museum on over 800m² of exhibition space, which gives an overall insight into his artistic work. Guided tours can be booked. According to the pictures on the webpage, definitely worth seeing. Art events are also regularly offered. More information: https://schlossdeutschkreutz.at/

Schloss Kobersdorf is now privately owned by Anna Schlanitz. Created around 1528 from a medieval castle. Moving past: Hans von Weisspriach turned the fore-castle into a castle in the style of the Renaissance. The sex of Weisspriacher dies in 1553; the rule is divided among the heirs more and more. Unclear ownership and indebtedness led to a decline of the once so magnificent court life on Kobersdorf: The castle was robber headquarters, counterfeit coins and 1599 even scene of a crime, when in the middle of the courtyard a farmer's wife was burned as a supposed witch. Synagogue and memorial Kobersdorf: After the war, the former synagogue was left to decay for decades. A restoration was started in 1976. In 2019, the province of Burgenland bought the synagogue and plans to use it as a venue and memorial after renovation. The memorial was inaugurated in September 2017 and is intended to commemorate the former Jewish inhabitants Kobersdorf, who were expelled in 1938.

I hope the name of the highlight makes sense with the Google Translate translation of "burial ground" in Hungarian, I don't like to give highlight names that are not in the national language. Burial mound from the Hallstatt period https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gräberfeld_Sopron-Várhely The details of the spelling should not be so unimportant, Google translates "kora vaskori halomsírok" with "Early Iron Age Haloms", "kora vaskori halomsirok" with "Puddings of the Early Iron Age", sounds interesting too :)
