Beautifully preserved train station in Mühlhausen.

Adolfsburg Castle takes its name from its builder, Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg, who had it built in the 1670s on the remains of an old castle, probably according to plans by Ambrosius von Oelde. It is a baroque moated castle that was primarily intended as a place of relaxation and retirement for the builder. Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg, a scion of a family that had been wealthy in the offices of Bilstein and Waldenburg since the 16th century, belonged to the clergy. He was a member of the cathedral chapter of Münster and a canon and provost of the Holy Cross in Hildesheim. Two fireplaces in the Knights' Hall and an alabaster bust of Johann Adolf von Fürstenberg are works by the sculptor Johann Mauritz Gröninger. The earlier baroque furnishings of the Knights' Hall probably also go back to Gröninger's designs. The construction was made possible by the purchase of various farms in Oberhundem by Johann Adolf from the property of the Wilhelm Hein couple.

The Plesseturm has been completely renovated and reopened since autumn 2023. From above there are wonderful views over the Werra Valley and into the Thuringian Forest.

Here it is definitely worth taking a break to eat something, enjoy the view and relax in complete peace.
