A lovely, well-appointed cabin with a small grocery store. A place of absolute peace and quiet. There are two beds per floor and one or two beds in the grocery store area. There is no running water; you must stock up before going down to the cabin.

There was good vegetarian food and a delicious dessert. Hot showers are available until 6 p.m. There's no real drying room. If the hut is full and all the hikers have to dry their shoes by the fireplace, expect to have to wear wet clothes and shoes the next morning. Unfortunately, there was only one used newspaper for over 50 pairs of wet shoes 🤷

The Refuge is high up in the mountains and you will only be able to reach it while carrying your bike. The trails on top? Unrideable. Why you might ask? Because it is incredibly beautiful and it's the start of the famous FURTHER Perseverance race!

The Rulhe refuge is like a spaceship placed in the middle of the mountains. In a most picturesque setting, the landscape combines mountains with sharp peaks and waterfalls with piercing sounds. Settle in to enjoy the panorama of the tapering ridges which, to the south, serve as a natural border with Andorra. The refuge is located at the confluence of several hiking trails such as the famous GR 10 or the GRP® tour of the Montagnes d'Ax. It is open from the end of May to the end of September without interruption, and in winter by reservation. The caretaker offers overnight accommodation and catering. The Cabane de la Jasse de Bretounels is a shepherd's hut erected at an altitude of 1,800 metres. The hut is a large structure divided into two parts: one reserved for shepherds, the other intended for hikers. This second part includes four places on a sideboard with mattresses, a fireplace as well as a large table and benches. The hut is erected within a branch of a stream where water flows a priori all year round. On the other hand, the place is frequented by livestock so a filter is necessary before any consumption. I recommend the cabin as the first stop on the GRP® tour des Montagnes d'Ax. It is an unguarded cabin so I invite you to remain respectful of the place. If space were to run out, you can always pitch a tent for the night near the cabin.

The Mouscadou hut is a charming hut perched at an altitude of 1,695 meters, halfway between the huts of Tessoula (1,535 meters) and Bretounels (1,612 meters). Its picturesque charm blends perfectly with the panorama it enjoys. From the doorstep, you can observe the deep valleys of Ax, the huge talc quarry of Trimouns and the adjoining mountains. The hut has a sideboard for three people and a fireplace. Without planning there for one night, Mouscadou remains an excellent stopover during the ascent and a last-minute refuge in the event of capricious weather. Please note: during the mountain pastures, the hut may be closed for the use of the shepherds.
