A landscape garden in front of the Renaissance castle and a geometrically designed garden with a rose arcade at the Rococo castle combine the ensemble into a picturesque unit.

The bridge (without traffic) near Dorndorf-Steudnitz is named after the Grand Duke Carl-Alexander of Saxony - Weimar - Eisenach. It was built in 1892 and the last renovation was completed in 2020.

Three castles, three characters – the unique ensemble of Dornburg castles sits on a rock above the Saale valley. The Dukes of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach valued the “Balcony of Thuringia” as a summer residence. More than 800 years of history are united here. The Old Castle contains the remains of a medieval castle. The Rococo Palace is a gallant 18th century pleasure palace with a porcelain collection. The Renaissance castle is closely linked to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He raved about the lovingly maintained castle gardens - they are a real treat for strollers and rose lovers. The origins of the Dornburg castles lie in a castle complex from the High Middle Ages at the northern end of the castle rock. In the 16th century, the Old Castle took its place, and the Renaissance Castle was added almost at the same time in the south. The rococo palace was built in the middle in the 18th century - the impressive three-person backdrop was perfect. Initially, the castles served completely different purposes and didn't even belong together. It was not until 1824 that Grand Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach bought the Renaissance castle in addition to the other two castles and had them connected by a variety of terraced gardens. Today the Renaissance and Rococo palaces and gardens can be visited. The Old Castle is used as a conference center.
