Most of the rock cover has already been removed. The vein-like ascent channel has been preserved on the Beerbergstein. It consists of pale red porphyry. Small reddish feldspars and, more rarely, small quartz grains are sometimes included in the fine-grained matrix. The porphyry is very hard and resists weathering better than the surrounding rock, which is mostly granite. For this reason, the Beerbergstein is preserved today as a huge block of rock.
