The Great Stables of the Château de Chantilly, built in the 18th century by Louis-Henri de Bourbon, Prince of Condé, are among the most majestic in the world. The Abbey of Notre-Dame and Saint-Jean-Baptiste of Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is located in the heart of the Compiègne forest, in the village of Saint-Jean-aux-Bois, in the Oise. It was founded in 1152 as an abbey of Benedictine nuns by Queen Adelaide of Savoy (widow of Louis VI). In 1220, the abbey was given a new Gothic-style church. Beautiful little village nestled in the heart of the forest. The inn at La Bonne Idée is a great place to eat and stay; I have never been disappointed, I recommend it.
