The first visible building on the Opinel Route is the Opinel roundabout. In 2000, the town of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne decided to honor Opinel by dedicating a roundabout to him on the road leading to the original hamlet! Jean-Claude Opinel volunteered to create a giant replica of an Opinel knife, which has stood proudly in the middle of the roundabout since 2002. The knife, measuring 383 cm, is recorded as the world record for the largest Opinel knife by the Guinness Book of Records...
