Laufenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1207. For centuries, fishing (Salme) and rafting were important industries in the town. In 1802 Napoleon ceded the Fricktal to the Helvetic Republic. The canton of Fricktal was created. But as early as 1803, the Fricktal was assigned to the newly founded canton of Aargau.

Coming from the German side, you should definitely go through the old town (despite the cobblestones). A detour over the Rhine bridge to the Swiss side is also recommended. You can easily drive along the Rhine.

there are several stone slabs as benches to hang your feet in the Rhine - unfortunately they were all occupied by couples, so no pictures of them.

The wooden bridge in Tiengen was built in 1938. Before that, there was only a footbridge, which repeatedly fell apart due to weathering. The bridge leads into the Bürgerwald forest between Tiengen and Homburg.
