3月 27, 2025, Kenilworth Castle
The castle was founded after the Norman Conquest of 1066; with development through to the Tudor period. It has been described by the architectural historian Anthony Emery as "the finest surviving example of a semi-royal palace of the later middle ages, significant for its scale, form and quality of workmanship". Kenilworth played an important historical role: it was the subject of the six-month-long siege of Kenilworth in 1266, thought to be the longest siege in medieval English history, and formed a base for Lancastrian operations in the Wars of the Roses. Kenilworth was the scene of the removal of Edward II from the English throne, the perceived French insult to Henry V in 1414 of a gift of tennis balls (said by John Strecche to have prompted the campaign that led to the Battle of Agincourt), and the Earl of Leicester's lavish reception of Elizabeth I in 1575. It has been described as "one of two major castles in Britain which may be classified as water-castles or lake-fortresses...

7月 12, 2022, Henwood Mill Water Wheel and Ford
Henwood Mill is a 400 year old flour mill on the River Blythe. It's now a private home but you can still see the water wheel. Henwood Lane fords the river here but there is a bridge so you can avoid wet feet.

7月 8, 2022, Kenilworth Castle
Kenilworth's impressive 12th century Norman keep, still a dominant feature today, would have been the heart of castle life for 500 years. A defensive powerhouse, it was built three stories high and with walls 14 feet wide. Entry is paid or with English Heritage membership, but the view of the castle from the road is good.

4月 9, 2022, Jack's Farm Path
Lovely route through across the farm land, better during the dry weather. Some parts are broken up by horses using it when it was wet. Quiet expect for birds and sheep. Lots of people walk it as well. It can take you into Hatton and the locks but cuts of the main road.

11月 25, 2021, Kenilworth Castle to Hatton Bridleway
Never found this before, go down the lane where it directs to a farm, turn right in front of the farm and follow the bridleway. Great ride with even better views. Most of it should be ok even if it has rained. You can't hear anything but birds so nice...

There is so much water in the locks and the pools between the locks, there would be a tidal wave in Leamington if they were opened

2月 20, 2021, Kenilworth Greenway
The Kenilworth to Berkswell Greenway is a linear Country Park set in the beautiful South Warwickshire countryside. The site forms a 6.5 kilometres section of former railway, with the entire park extending to some 16 hectares. History The railway branch line from Berkswell to Kenilworth Junction was opened in 1884. It effectively provided a short cut avoiding Coventry for freight trains heading south. Rumour has it that it was used in the war for the transport of munitions and the siding at Berkswell, left when the track was lifted in the 1960s, was used for ‘parking’ the Royal Train when the Queen visited the area. Later, even the siding was removed to make way for a station car park. Left to itself, the old railway became a wildlife corridor. Hawthorn, birch and other plants quickly took hold and softened the edges, animals and birds found cover for dens and nests. Warwickshire County Council took ownership of the route in the 1970′s but apart from work to clear a wider path, it was left to the walkers and the wildlife. After the turn of the Millennium, Warwickshire County Council worked in partnership with Sustrans to develop the route.
