We rode this as part of Laureen’s Ride, a waymarked horse riding/cycling route along quiet lanes and bridleways. Conditions perfect beginning of April, although for cyclists, this is a dry weather ride. It will get very muddy.

Nice quiet, straight and fairly flat country road. The area is quite agricultural, but there is heath land to the west.

Part of the Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal the pool allows boats to turn around before the tunnel. The Churnet Way long distance walking trail and NCN 559 follow the canal towpath past the pool.

Well maintained and very smooth path. Must be great to ride in winter

The track is quite bumpy in places due to ingrown tree roots

This brook has clay/ orange discharge due to high mineral content like iron oxide.

Nice tree-lined trail for MTB and Gravel riding. Can be busy with walkers, runners and dogs so take a bell and use it.

Brilliant views of Manchester airport runways and its aircraft.

Cloudside might sound like a lovely name for a road, but it's a tough little berg from either side! Not the longest or steepest in the area but you'll know about it. Great views and a good surface though.

A notorious long climb, that feels like it goes on & on.

The main canal path is really well surfaced however this section over the tunnel has a number of steep steps and pointless gates and obstacles, while there is a path to avoid the steps all of the gates are locked so you’ll still have to struggle with the bike
