A well stocked shop and pub which is the perfect place for a cycle pitstop. No worries about queues, locking up bike etc.... Bench seating outside the pub with some shade from the trees. Minimal detour even if you're on the lap of the reservoir

Don't follow Komoot strictly (like I did) 😉 - obey the signs from farmer/landowner & NCN signs - small mistakes can be forgiven, I suppose, when we new to the area.

From here you can access the cycle/walking path along the top of the dam which gives great views up the length of Grafham Water.

The cycle path along the top of the dam is wide and flat and gives great views across the reservoir. Reach it from the Visitor Centre at the northern end although access at the southern end is trickier as you have to squeeze through a narrow gap next to a locked gate by the main road.

A nice connection between Eaton Socon and St Neots if you want to avoid the more congested route through the town centre.

Pub-in-a-shed. There’s a community-run village shop next to it.

Not very visible from the road, hidden behind a tall brick wall. You can peep through the old gateway or else from the driveway at the far left of the wall.

Excellent ride not to be missed. Advice. Take care can be a bit slidey but should be no problems for most experience levels

Great off road section good surfaces although take it easy if not experienced as there are a few pot holes.

North West trail blue bell woods

The valve tower at Grafham Lake homes the controls that operate the opening and closing of the gates/valves allowing the reservoir water to be correctly regulated. The tower was built in the 1960s and resembles something of a spaceship!

Good cafe usually busy but plenty of space for bikes and a playpark for youngsters. Great crazy golf course due to open May 2023.

Nice pub with good food from sandwiches with chips to meals. Good garden and car park with space for bikes. Excellent toilets. Recommended. If you are cycling from the Grafham caravan site its just about half way round the resevoir. Aug 24 update. The pub is under new management but food still excellent and staff lovely. Recommend steak baguette and chips with pot of tea.

Good and nice scenery for a hot coffee you can also have your bike repair and accessory purchases at the Rutland right there. Beautiful place for a visit also a lovely mountain bike trail

Built in the 1960s, the Valve Tower at Grafham Water is space age in design. It houses the equipment used to regulate the flow of water. The reservoir was built to accommodate a water supply for the new town of Milton Keynes.

Nice pub that serves food and drink. Perfectly placed to visit while completing Grafham Waters.

Lovely gravel trail that is suitable for all bike types and abilities. The surface is nice and hardpacked and the views are great.

Grafham Water is a reservoir with a circumference of about 16 km (10 mi). It is the eighth largest reservoir in England by volume and the third largest by area. Just a few short miles from Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, Grafham Water, England's third largest reservoir can be found nestled in 1500 acres of beautiful countryside. Designated as a SSSI the western end features a 280 acre nature reserve and is home to ancient woodlands, reed beds and bird and amphibian species. There are big open spaces to take in the views and facilities include visitor centre and two cafes. Bike hire is also available and there is a trail around the water. It can get muddy at times.

Buckden Towers, comprising the Great Tower, walls and grounds, are all that remains of Buckden Palace which dates from 1479. The site of the Palace is over 900 years old and was identified in the Domesday Book of 1086 as belonging to the Bishop of Lincoln. Historically, Buckden has played an unhappy role. Henry VIII's first wife Katherine of Aragon was locked up here for not producing a male heir. A few years after Katherine's death Henry, took his fifth wife, Catherine Howard there to escape the plague in London. However, it was during their stay at Buckden that Henry accused his new young wife of adultery with Thomas Culpeper, eventually leading to her execution. Buckden Towers are privately owned and have conference room and retreat facilities, self-catering apartments and a tea-room.

Pretty sketchy on a road bike. Better to go the long way around.
