The door to the tower is open. So let's go in to the first viewing door. Okay. Now let's go on. I'm already getting dizzy by the time I get to the second viewing door. Let's go out. The view is amazing. And there are information boards for orientation.

The Heersberg (964.9 m above sea level. NHN) is an elevation in the southwestern Swabian Jura near Albstadt. It is surrounded by the Albstadt districts of Margrethausen, Lautlingen, Laufen an der Eyach and Burgfelden. The Eyach, a right-hand tributary of the Neckar, flows around the Heersberg coming from the north to the north-west. Due to the strong erosive effect of the Eyach and its tributaries, the Heersberg, together with the neighboring Burgfelden plateau, is now completely isolated from the rest of the Alb plateau. Its predominantly tree-free high plateau is characterized by an extensive juniper heath. The terrain on the steep, wooded slopes of the Heersberg is mostly rocky. In the years 1940/1941, German mountain troops of the 4th Mountain Division (Enzian Division) were stationed in the area. A section of the hiking trail from Lautlingen to the Heersberg is still called the Muliweg because the mountain troops had to use this steep ascent to the Alb with their mules almost every day during their training. A memorial stone on the high plateau commemorates the Muliweg and the Enzian Division. 200 meters north of the Heersberg viewpoint are the remains of Heersberg Castle.
