Exeter Quay, also known as Exeter Quayside, is a district of Exeter on the River Exe and the Exeter Ship Canal. It was used as a port since prehistoric times, when a sandstone outcrop was used to unload the ships of overseas traders.[1] However, in 1381, the Countess Weir closed the river to shipping. In 1566, a canal was completed to allow ships access. Over time, the number of ships using the quay increased, and so the quay was extended in the late 17th century. Further extension took place in 1830 when a new canal basin was dug. However, in 1840, the railway reached Exeter, and shipping began to decline. The quay is no longer used for shipping, but mainly for recreational purposes.

A bit rocky in places, as areas have been washed out in recent rains. Picked up a rear puncture and had to walk the bike on to East Budleigh to find a dry, flat spot to do the repair.

The bridleway has now been resurfaced with tarmac, so can be ridden on any type of bike. A really good and quiet link from the Exe Estuary trail up towards Woodbury village and the common beyond.

Great trail for the whole family. Can relax and cruise or head down and pick up some speed. The full trail is about 7 miles so tough for little ones

It is a wetland habitat that attracts thousands of birds, especially waders and wildfowl, and offers stunning views of the Exe Estuary. Exe Estuary Trail passes by the reserve and offers scenic views of the river and the surrounding countryside.

Check out the ridge Cafe by the Quay climbing centre for a coffee. Or on the other side of the quay there is the coffee cellar.

A lovely place for a family cycle, challenging in some parts for small children and the uphill is in places brutal, but you can push.

7月 29, 2022, Broadclyst to Killerton Cycle Track
This is rideable on most bikes that don't have lightweight tyres. I've cycled it on my touring/gravel bike and my Brompton without issues.

Fast gravel doesn't get much better than this! The path between Clifford and Fingle Bridge is wide (suitable for all cycle users), gravel paved in most sections and fast rolling. It skirts next to the River Teign with many spots to sit and chill next to the river. At Fingle bridge you will find a pub (sometimes odd opening hours), which has a good selection of pub grub and beverages.

7月 15, 2022, Clifford Bridge
Clifford Bridge lies right next to the River Teign and is at the cross roads of multiple road (some steep and some steeper) and gravel options (generally smooth and fast). There's also a lush little lodge site which could be a great option for a weekend get away.

7月 15, 2022, River Teign Riverside Bridleway
Lush lush and more lush gravel. This section of gravel follows the River Teign from Steps Bridge finishing just before Clifford Bridge. You might pass the odd dog walker but otherwise it is quiet. The gravel/dirt is dreamy and generally really smooth.
