It was erected here to commemorate a person murdered at this spot—in this case, a person of higher clerical rank, namely Bishop Samuel Wilberforce.

Beautiful Spot, Lovely Climbing and usually Quiet

If you are doing the newlands loop from to Dorking via Rudgwick avoid the last bridleway through Somersbury Wood. Just go on the road. (sombersbury lane then Horsham road!) It’s totally unrideable very sloppy and deep clay like mud. I learned the hard way!!

Don’t use this track as it was flooded. My tire was fully under - best head up to Mertsham and go around in order to avoid

This is an enjoyable wooded gravel ride along a shared bridleway that runs under the M25 and connects Headley and Walton On The Hill.
