We rode this as part of Laureen’s Ride, a waymarked horse riding/cycling route along quiet lanes and bridleways. Conditions perfect beginning of April, although for cyclists, this is a dry weather ride. It will get very muddy.

A small, bustling town on the edge of the Peak District, with numerous independent cafés, shops and pubs. During the Industrial Revolution, Bollington was a centre for cotton mills, quarries and coal mines. Many of the historic mills are still standing, now mostly converted to apartments.

One of the western part of Peak District greatest treasure. Ideally to be ridden ona proper fatty tyres but still doable on a gravel bike (maybe less fun 😉)

Lovely climb up from the reservoir, quiet road with fabulous views.

Great cafe for a stop if you're cycling down the canal. A small amount of outside seating, but it's nice to take away and sit on the canalside.

Middlewood Way is an 11-mile (16-km) traffic-free greenway linking Macclesfield and Marple. This mostly flat route winds through fields and small towns like Bollington. While not as scenic as trails like Tissington, it’s still a charming ride. Shared with walkers and horse riders, some sections require caution and slower speeds due to limited space. In wet weather expect muddy conditions, with a slick surface that can leave you messy. In dry weather, the hardpack path offers a smooth and enjoyable ride.

Nice quiet, straight and fairly flat country road. The area is quite agricultural, but there is heath land to the west.

Great pub that opens at 6.00PM. Serves food.

Nearly the whole route is flat and on light gravel, making this an ideal easy route for new bikers, injured bikers getting back in the saddle, or just an easy ride qith nothing technical or difficult

One of those “this is why we mountain bike” routes. The reward for climbing up is always the run back down. Keep your wits about you and an eye out for hikers and you’ll be smiling from ear to ear once you reach the bottom.

Avoid when rains heavily as does not drain! (You know it's bad when mini bridges from sticks are placed across swamp puddles!)

The Errwood Circular route offers panoramic views during the 7.2 km walk, which should take around 2 hours. It's advised to wear walking shoes or boots, especially after rain, as the narrow path on the far side can get muddy.

This lane is lined with blackberries at the end of July.
