Coming from the market square, at the end of Rittergasse you come to the Rittertor, formerly also called Eselsgässer Tor. It still essentially marks the northern border of Stolberg today and once served as part of the city fortifications to protect the city, like other gates in the Stolberg valleys, which no longer exist. The gate, which was already mentioned in the 14th century, can still be walked through and driven through today, only there is no longer anyone on guard here.
