⛵✨ The Norder Tief offers a very special atmosphere when it flows through wooded sections – a rare and therefore all the more precious sight in the otherwise vast and treeless marshland around Norden.

The story goes that at the end of the 14th century, the pirate Klaus Störtebeker sought refuge in the harbor of Marienhafe. At that time, fleeing the Hanseatic League, Denmark, and the Teutonic Knights, the pirates Klaus Störtebeker and Gödeke Michel fled to the North Sea. The Frisians lived here, who were at war with the Hanseatic League but also fought among themselves. Therefore, the pirates were welcomed with open arms. Today, the landmark of Störtebekerland offers a magnificent view of the East Frisian landscape. On the first floor of the tower is the Störtebeker Chamber. Klaus Störtebeker is said to have lived there during his stays in Marienhafe around 1400. Today, it houses the Tower Museum, which documents the building's history.
