The ruins have a very special character due to their construction – you can still really feel the connection between nature and medieval architecture.

A beautiful path leads all the way around Lower Franconia's largest lake. The lake is a great place for a break. You can grab a snack at the kiosk and, if the weather's nice, sit on the sandy beach.

Although three gatehouses narrow the access roads, they are not towering, defensive towers. The Bad- or Lendershäuser Tor, the Weth- or Großmannsdorfer Tor, and the Obertor were probably no longer intended for defensive purposes when they were built in the second decade of the 18th century, but rather as customs and inspection posts. Königsberg originated around 1180 as a result of the construction of a castle on the "King's Vineyard" (for the castle, see: Königsberg Castle), presumably on the land of an old Frankish royal domain.
