The short detour up from the Schauerwaldstraße is truly worth it. From the vast clearing of the Hochalm, the view opens up over the valley surrounding Oberwang and the hills toward Attersee and the Höllengebirge mountains. Opposite, to the southeast, the Schafberg mountain overlooks the forested mountains between Mondsee and Attersee. On the Kulmspitze, to the left of the Schafberg, is the magnificent observation tower.

The Rerndl Forester's Lodge in St. Johann am Walde and the adjacent Rerndlteich Pond are located near the "Spiaßmoia" raised bog. If you're on the "KTM Kobernaußerwald MTB Arena" mountain bike trail, the lodge is a good landmark.
