In 1625 the Jesuits came to Münstereifel and made it the center of the Catholic renewal. They named their grammar school after the archangel, the Michaelmarkt was created, the Jesuits revived the pilgrimage to Mahlberg with the chapel and now called it Michelsberg or Michaelkapelle. In the New Testament the name Michael stands for the fighter against the devil, later he also became the patron saint of pharmacists, merchants and police officers, for example.
