⛪📜✨ St. James' Church, located on the eastern edge of Freiberg's old town, is a fascinating example of the combination of medieval structure and neo-Gothic architecture. It is one of the city's four historic parish churches.

⛲Fountain Monument “Otto the Rich”: In the center of the square stands the monument to the city's founder, Margrave Otto of Meissen. The fountain, dating from 1897, is a popular meeting place and photo opportunity.

This impressive monument—also known as the Market Fountain—featuring a bronze statue of Margrave Otto the Rich (1125–1190), stands in the middle of the Upper Market Square and is a popular spot for people to linger and meet. Four water-spouting heraldic lions adorn the monument. It was erected in 1897. Furthermore, it is an old tradition among local students to bathe in the fountain after passing their exams. The monument to Otto the Rich could not be properly viewed during this hike, as it was surrounded by stalls from the Christmas market.

This beautiful shelter and rest hut was rebuilt in 2023 and is located as a waypoint on the "Naundorf Circular Trail." It offers a magnificent view of Naundorf and the Tharandt Forest. A heartfelt thank you to the initiators and builders/helpers.

According to legend, the shallow cave in the rock (quartz-armed porphyry or rhyolite) was once much larger, and three fairies lived there. On a full moon night, a minstrel who had previously played at the fair in Hintergersdorf (spa town of Hartha) passed by. The three fairies had laid out laundry on the meadow to bleach. The musician picked up a lace cloth and took it with him. However, when he got home, instead of the cloth, he held a gray cobweb in his hand. Before sunrise, he returned the cobweb to its place, where it became a lace cloth again, just as the other laundry disappeared with the first rays of sunlight. Since then, the fairies have not been seen again, and the cave has become a shallow hole.
