The viewing point on P16, where you should definitely plan a break and enjoy the fascinating view of the Eichsfeld and the distant horizon. In autumn, a colorful spectacle awaits you here.

Arrived at the top, the ascent from Lindewerra is not to be scoffed at!

Great view which is of course even better in winter. When descending on some parts of the route, however, it is very slippery. In the morning everything is frozen rock hard and then the sun shines and it thaws on the surface. Then it's a slide.

Coming from Hanstein Castle on the way to the Teufelskanzel, you have 2 options. The steep path on the right leads to the highest point of the Höhenberg, the Junkerkuppe. It is 511 m above sea level.

This highlight is on the premium hiking trail 16 (P16). From here you have a wonderful view over the forests and mountains. It is certainly most beautiful in spring and summer, when the trees are blooming in beautiful green, as well as in golden autumn with colorful foliage.

Another beautiful view awaits the hiker at the Elisabethhöhe. The focus here is on the beautiful district of Rengelrode in Heiligenstadt and the Rengelröder waiting room.

The first castle on the Rusteberg was first mentioned in a document in 1123, but was already destroyed again in 1160. Subsequent buildings and extensions by the archbishops of Mainz were carried out from the 12th century. In 1749 and 1750 the administration built Rusteberg Castle. In connection with this, the demolition of the previously intact castle began in order to use the stones as building material.
