Gorgeous little lighthouse between Lunderston Bay and Greenock, along National Cycle Route. It's a shared pavement section here, which can be a bit narrow in places and often has cars parked on it, stay awake!

"Named for its rather distinctive shape, The Pencil was built in 1912 as a reminder of the Viking influence over Scotland. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde and standing at around 70 feet tall, the pencil remembers the Battle of Largs, where the Scottish defeated 160 ships belonging to the Norwegian King Haco. Take a leisurely walk along the prom in Largs towards the southern end at Bowen Craig and you can’t miss this monument standing 70 feet high in the shape of a pencil. Magnus the Viking was gifted to the people of Largs by North Ayrshire Council in 2013 to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the historic Battle of Largs. The Vikings were defeated in the Battle of Largs in 1263, their last raid on Scottish soil. Under the Treaty of Perth, Magnus King of Norway surrendered the Western Isles and the Isle of Man to the Scottish Crown in 1266. (information taken from the sign nearby the statue)

Cloch Lighthouse overlooks the River Clyde estuary. Looking across the water you can see Dunoon from this location. The lighthouse is a big structure that can be seen from numerous surrounding locations

The Shipbuilders affectionately known as the Skelpies stand 33 feet and weighing 14 ton are by the well renowned artist John McKenna and made in his Ayrshire studio. They celebrate the historical shipbuilding industry of Port Glasgow and the impact ‘Clydebuilt’ had on the whole world.

Loch Thom is a reservoir which since 1827 has provided a water supply to the town of Greenock in Inverclyde, Scotland. It is named after the civil engineer Robert Thom who designed the scheme which created the reservoir and delivered water via a long aqueduct known as The Cut. Today, as well as providing a water supply, the loch is used for sport fishing and forms part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park with several attractive walks and a centre at Cornalees Bridge providing nature study facilities.

Cumbrae is easily accessed via regular ferries from Largs. It has one very flat road following it’s coast approx 10 miles and another road climbing to the Glaid Trig point and great views to Ben Lomond and the Cobbler.

Both Bute and the Cowal peninsula are accessible via ferry and have lots of great road and gravel cycling.

The Prophet's Grave is the burial site for the 17th-century preacher, the Reverend William Smith, and is located in the Brisbane Glen near Largs The Reverend William Smith died aged 28 from the plague in 1647. Smith only arrived to minister in the town three years before his death, having worked as a schoolmaster in nearby Irvine. He never married and records show that he died with only his books and his clothes. Such was his dedication that he continued to minister to his parishioners even after he had contracted the plague. Local legend recounts that he became known as the 'Prophet' because upon his deathbed he prophesied that Largs would be forever protected from plague or pestilence as long as the holly trees growing at his grave were prevented from touching. Older records indicate that the holly trees were located at the 'head' and 'foot' of the grave, however today two trees are located either side of the 'head' and three at the 'foot'. Relatives and others maintained the grave site and the result, intended or otherwise, of Smith's prophecy is that the site has been maintained and his name has never been forgotten. The grave site now consists of a recumbent stone standing on stone blocks near the Middleton Burn that runs down to the Noddsdale Water in the vicinity of the old Noddsdale corn and flour mill.

The 16 feet tall steel statue of Magnus the Viking was erected in 2013 to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the the Battle of Largs in 1263 when the Scots defeated the Viking army, which led to Scotland regaining control of Kintyre and the Western Isles.

Situated directly opposite Dunoon. Designed by Thomas Smith, with Stevenson, and built in 1797. Was automated around 1990’s.

The Cloch Lighthouse, created in 1797 by Thomas Smith and Robert Stevenson, features a round tower with triangular windows and added foghorns. Back then, the light's lenses floated in mercury and were turned by hand. Today, it's automated.

Sandy beach in the Clyde Muirshiel, notable as being the closest beach to Glasgow. The beach is equipped with food and drink stalls, and play-parks. The beach and surrounding bay is a ideal place to spot the local wild-life population, particularly sea-birds like Gannets and Curlews.
