The Gnitz peninsula is a place full of beauty and very remote. The lake is located south of the seaside resort of Ahlbeck in the municipality of Korswandt. It is around 1.4 kilometers long, 0.45 km wide and has an average depth of 4.1 meters. The lake was formed in the last ice age. The shore offers many seabirds an ideal breeding and resting area. The body of water is almost completely surrounded by beech forest.
