Panagia Katafygiotissa in Palaia Fokaia, Attica. Panagia Katafygiotissa is a chapel located in the cove of Katafygi, in the settlement of "Aiolos" in Palaia Fokaia, Attica, a few kilometers before Sounio. Significance: This chapel is particularly known for its unique interior, which was painted by the acclaimed Greek artist and academic Dimitris Mytaras (1934-2017). Mytaras's artwork here is unconventional, featuring flying figures, birds, and plants, rather than traditional hagiographies of saints. He described it as his "prayer" and his way of "seeing heaven," emphasizing that for him, God is found in nature. The chapel was founded in 2004 by the "Poseidon" Beautification Association. Controversy: Due to its non-traditional iconography, the Metropolis has reportedly "forbidden" the performance of mysteries and liturgies within this specific chapel, making it primarily a site for artistic appreciation and personal prayer rather than regular church services.
